Concrete & Masonry Projects in Central PA

Driveways, steps, walkways, retaining walls, patios, city sidewalks, and the excavation underneath them, built by our own crew for homeowners and businesses across Central Pennsylvania.

Recent Projects and What Went Into Them

Every job below started the same way. Matthew walked the property with the owner, checked the soil, the grade, and where the water goes, and put the full scope and price in writing before we broke ground. Then our own crew did the excavation, the concrete, and the masonry, so nothing got lost between subcontractors.

Backyard Rebuild With a Support Wall, a Bigger Patio, and New Steps

These homeowners had an old brick patio and a mess left behind by a previous contractor. We excavated the backyard, built a support wall so the new patio could run past the footprint of the old one, and added steps down to the yard.

Along the base of the wall we poured a concrete edge that carries water away from the wall instead of letting it soak in behind it. Parging on the exposed concrete and a full cleanup finished the job.

Rear Concrete Patio, From Bare Dirt to Finished Slab

Behind a blue-sided house, we dug out the yard, set the forms, and spread and compacted a stone base before the truck arrived. The slab was finished and cut with control joints, so the hairline cracks every slab eventually gets follow the joints instead of running across the middle.

We also poured new steps and a walkway at the same house, so the patio, steps, and walk were built to work together rather than patched in over the years.

City Sidewalk Replacement Around a Street Tree

At a brick rowhouse, the public sidewalk around a street tree was broken and uneven. Our track loader broke out the old slabs and hauled them off, and we poured new panels around the tree well so the walk sits level for neighbors and the tree still has room at its base.

Sidewalk work in the right-of-way means keeping the walk blocked off with cones until the new concrete can take foot traffic, which is part of how we schedule these jobs.

Brick Front Steps Rebuilt With New Railings

Front steps on older brick homes usually fail at the mortar and the treads first. On this rowhouse, we rebuilt the brick steps, set new caps on the treads, and anchored iron handrails into the new work so they stay tight.

Steps are the first thing a visitor touches, and a loose rail is a safety problem, so we treat them as structure rather than trim.

Alley Parking Pads: Cracked Asphalt Replaced With Concrete

Behind a row of brick buildings, the parking area off the alley was cracked asphalt. We removed it, regraded the base so water would run off the pads instead of sitting on them, and poured new concrete parking pads.

Tight alley jobs like this are where a compact machine earns its keep. The removal, the grading, and the pour were all done by our crew.

Exposed-Aggregate Driveway in Front of a Garage

This driveway was finished with exposed aggregate, where the top layer of cement paste is washed off to show the stone in the mix. It gives the surface more grip than a smooth trowel finish and hides tire marks well.

Like every driveway we pour, it sits on an excavated and compacted stone base, with joints spaced for Central Pennsylvania freeze-thaw winters.
